Chris Spencer
On leaving St. Georges in 1969 I trained as a Chartered Accountant with P.D. Leake & Co. in London, qualifying in 1975. Subsequently I worked for Morris and Kempe (Accountants) in Bermuda from
July 1975 to July 1977.
I went to Guernsey in July 1977 as a partner to open an office for Midgley Snelling Chartered Accountants. I joined PKF in 1984, becoming Managing Partner/Director of the Channel Islands firm from 1990
until April 2000 when I sold my interest in the business to my younger directors.
Since 2000 I have become a non-executive director (and occasionally chairman) of a number of listed fund companies and I am also on the board of a number of insurance entities. This work keeps me rather
busier than originally intended!
I am a past chairman of the Guernsey branch of the Institute of Directors, a past chairman of the Guernsey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants, past member of the States of Guernsey Transport
Board, past member of the States of Guernsey Gambling Commission and currently am a member of the Association of Investment Companies offshore committee.
I married Margaret Elizabeth Howard in June 1975. I have two daughters, one of whom is an architect living with her husband in Doha. My other daughter is a journalist and lives in Paris.
She has recently presented us with a bonny grandson.
I have been a keen motor boater for many years, visiting the north and south coasts of Brittany, as well as the occasional foray to the U.K. coast (food not so good!).
I do also sail, I am a keen (but not good) golfer, scuba dive and shoot.
I keep a flat in Weybridge and I have a small property in Tobago, as well as our house in Guernsey.
I would love to attend a reunion but do need a lot of notice as my diary gets rather crowded!
